Cavaretta Releases YouTube Video Calling on Patrick to Sign Melissa’s Law
SUDBURY - Republican State Senate Candidate for Sudbury Precincts 2 and 3, Dean Cavaretta released a YouTube Video today asking Governor Deval Patrick to sign “Melissa’s Bill” into law this week.
“Melissa’s Bill” recently passed the Massachusetts Senate 31-7 and institutes no early parole for repeat sex offenders and certain violentfelons. The law ensures that on a third offense, habitual offenders will have to serve their entire sentence.
Despite current State Senator Jamie Eldridge’s opposition, the compromise version of this bill now heads to the Governor’s Office for his signature.
“I urge Governor Patrick to sign this week the bipartisan measure,” Cavaretta said. “Please call 617-725-4005 and ask the Governor to sign the bill.”
“Melissa’s Law” is named after Melissa Gosule, the tragic victim of a particularly heinous crime, which gained notoriety over the last several years in Massachusetts and across the country.
Cavaretta cannot understand why Senator Eldridge was one of only seven Senators to vote against the bill.
“It is unthinkable that my opponent would be willing to spend millions of dollars on subsidizing failed companies but would not be willing to spend a fraction of the cost to protect law-abiding citizens from repeat, violent criminals,” Cavaretta commented.
As a MA certified teacher and small business owner, Cavaretta wants to bring his unique experiences to Beacon Hill as an independent State Senator who will put education, the economy and law-abiding citizens first.
