Don White Plays Sudbury United Methodist Church
Don White and the Sudbury United Methodist Church are teaming up once again to raise funds for a new community hall in Dominica. Come and see Don White on Friday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. for an evening of music, laughter, and inspired storytelling at the Sudbury United Methodist Church to help send a work team from SUMC to Dominica next month.
Rick Houpt, the leader of the work team, has recruited White to help raise money for his work team in the past. He has been a fan for 15 years, and knows there are few performers whose appeal stretches across so many lines.
“He is gut-busting funny and his songs and messages resonate with families of multiple generations,” says Houpt. “He has stories that make you laugh whether you’re 80 years old, 40 years old, or 20 years old. And we’re a multi-generational church.”
The SUMC has a 30-year relationship with the Caribbean island of Dominica, which is just southeast of Puerto Rico. According to Houpt, the new community center will help the local church with its outreach programs – community assistance for food and medicine, fundraisers, and outreach.
“We’ve sent dozens of work teams in over the years,” he says. “We have a family sponsoring program and sponsor a pre-school there.”
The Don White show will also feature the 10-person a cappella group Bella Cappella and covers from 50/50. There will also be a silent auction with more than 65 items up for grabs, including Patriots tickets, artwork from local artists, vacation home weekends, and gift certificates from more than forty local businesses.
Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. For more info and tickets, contact the SUMC at 978.443.4351 or sumc@sudbury-umc.org.
