Pipefitters Local 537 Endorses Dolan for State Senate

Mara Dolan announced the endorsement of Pipefitters Association Local Union 537 in her campaign to succeed retiring Senator Susan Fargo for Massachusetts State Senate in the Third Middlesex District.

Dolan has made the protection of collective bargaining rights a hallmark of her campaign platform.

"Organized labor makes the middle class strong, and the attacks on labor unions in the last 30 years are directly tied to the weakening of the middle class and of the country," said Dolan. "We need to rebuild the foundation for long-term prosperity, and I am the only candidate in this race with labor union endorsements.  Labor unions and workers are committed to worker safety, getting the job done right, and building things to last.  The Pipefitters 537 exemplify all of that and I'm very proud to have their endorsement."

“What people of this Commonwealth must understand,” said Leo Fahey, business manager of Pipefitters Local Union 537, “is that through the relentless efforts of organized labor, we have negotiated and secured standards for all sectors in safety, employee benefits and salaries, and the rules and regulations which protect both employee and employers, private and public, union and non-union. This has allowed the middle class to grow and prosper.  If this Commonwealth eliminates the very right of average workers to bargain collectively, then all sectors suffer.  One hundred years of creating the rights of the working middle class will vanish.  This is why we firmly endorse Mara Dolan for State Senate.  She is smart, talented, and strong.  She understands what makes this Commonwealth a very special place.  Trust that she will work tirelessly for her constituents in the Third Middlesex District.”

Pipefitters Local 537 has a 100-year history of organizing in the Boston area, they are a group of highly skilled workers that continues to help build the Massachusetts economy from the ground up.  Members install and maintain piping systems that carry hot water, steam, air and other liquids or gasses for a variety of applications.  These well trained workers provide new industries and old with the infrastructure they need to keep Massachusetts working.

Dolan is the co-chair of the Policy Committee of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee, co-chair of the Concord Democratic Town Committee, producer and host of the award-winning government and policy talk show “Right Here, Right Now with Mara Dolan.” She is a candidate for the Massachusetts State Senate in the Third Middlesex District.
