Sudbury Pop Warner Moves to American Youth Football League
Sudbury Youth Football and Cheer is gearing up for the upcoming 2012 football and cheerleading season and will be joining the American Youth Football League.
Over the past year we have been considering the possibility of moving to a new youth football/cheerleading sponsoring organization. A great deal of time considering the pros and cons of the alternative programs, and the benefits to our football and cheer family, and are happy to announce that we recently decided to join the American Youth Football (AYF) league beginning with this upcoming season.
One of the major considerations in making this decision was that the AYF football program is a grade based program, which will generally result in participants from a single grade playing together on the same team (the AYF cheer program will remain age based). Our players have in the past been frustrated by the spreading of a single grade of participants over two and sometimes three teams, often even playing in different divisions of the league. Our affiliation with AYF, since it is a grade based program, should solve this problem, cheer would remain age based. In addition, since AYF does not have the stringent weight limitations and is a more inclusive program, and we will no longer be required to turn away participants who want to play because of weight issues.
We will be playing with the Bay State Conference of AYF this year, and will be competing with the following towns: Natick, Framingham, Wellesley, Needham, Milton, Walpole, Norwood, Weymouth, and Weston/Wayland. These are towns who share our program philosophy and who have themselves recently moved to AYF.
We will also hold an open house for parents with members of the SYF&C Board to address any remaining questions that you may have about this move or more generally about the program. This meeting will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 14th, in the gymnasium at the Fairbank Community Center.
