Curtis Special Ed Teacher Flees SPS for Hudson
Brooke Patterson leaves her position to take a post at JFK Middle School.
A Sudbury Public Schools special education teacher recently resigned from Curtis Middle School and has joined JFK Middle School in Hudson.
SPS Superintendent Anne Wilson confirmed the resignation of Brooke Patterson but would not go into further detail.
"I don't usually comment (when faculty members leave)," she said.
Wilson said the position is already filled.
For up-to-the-minute updates on this story and more, follow Sudbury Patch on Facebook, Twitter, or sign up for our email newsletter.
A former SPS teacher who wished not to be named said Patterson gave just a one-week notice.
A message left for Curtis Principal Stephen Lambert was not immediately returned.
A message left for Patterson was also not immediately returned.
JFK Principal Brian Daniels announced Patterson's hiring in an October online newsletter to Hudson parents.
Patterson also spent 10 years at Perkins School.
Sudbury Patch will update this story as more facts become available.

I generally like Patch. I like the breaking news alerts for important things such as schools evacuated, police closing major roads, criminals on the run in town, missing children, etc.
If the breaking news alerts are going to be "teacher accepts new position", it's gonna be time for me to unsubscribe.

I for one am glad Mr Fucci reported this- Anne Wilson is destroying our school system. One carrer/reputation at a time. Not to mention she is spending money hand over fist. From creating new positions, to new furniture, to repainting her office (twice) legal expenses. We still have a lawsuit pending-
Keep up the good work Fooch!

While "flees" may be a little bit extreme the Fooch has been a saving grace in this town over the last year. Thanks to his reporting Sudbury is finally on it's way to some sort of transparency. He should win an award for he stories he has helped facilitate.
On that note this is America. If you don't like it all I can say is that you don't have to read it. You can always tune into Wicked Local to read your news. That being said if your looking for an honest, two sided approach, good luck with that.

Sensationalist reporting only succeeds in increasing hits on the internet popularity counters. I think the Editor and new father is either tired and lacking sleep or having a hard time dealing with being the Editor for both Sudbury and Acton. He still hasn't answered a simple question asked of him weeks ago. Sudbury deserves better, consistent, unbiased reporting. Patch subscribers deserve better as well. "Flees" is not a little bit extreme. It creates an impression that the Special Ed teacher was being victimized or threatened and ran for safety. Again, Sudbury deserves better.

Like I said Kirsten I think Robert is doing a great job. We can agree to disagree. I hope he keeps up the great work and I personally will continue to tune in daily to read the Patch's content. With all due respect you are out of line calling a man out for being a new father and receiving a promotion. Are you saying Robert isn't capable of being a father and taking on more responsibility? It sure comes across that way. How would you like it if Robert posted a comment saying the flowers in your shop are withered because you are spending your entire day commenting on here? You're certainly entitled to your opinion yet if you don't like the Patch you don't have to read it.

Come on, now, Ed. My flowers are never withered. My flowers are magical. I am questioning his professionalism, Ed. I used to think Robert was doing a great job until out of the blue he wouldn't respond to a simple question and worse. Based on his actions I have come to question my trust of his abilities as a non-biased reporter. Now if indeed his intent is not to be biased and to stir up the pot, ruffling tons of feathers in the process, in order to get to the truth then I also find fault with that. Do the ends justify the means? I am aware that this is America. My tax bills prove it;) Of course we can agree to disagree. That is the beauty of being us!

This comment is more than a little below the belt. While I can agree that the unsubstantiated use of the word "flees" in a headline is unnecessary, so is making public personal information about the editor simply because you feel personally snubbed by him. I would really think business people would be a little more careful in how they present themselves to a community -- this is just petty.

Rose J,
I have not made any personal information public that was not public information already. You can see his facebook profile photo anytime you wish. I was not personally snubbed by Robert Fucci, I was unprofessionally treated by him. Again, I can separate the individual from the Editor. And I am definitely naive in thinking that a person can voice an opinion on Patch without fearing attack. I am genuinely surprised by way people can turn a blind eye to things when it suits their needs. Many residents of Sudbury need to voice their frustrations and Patch, in it's infancy, has been a great venue for many. When I start to question the process after a while, suddenly I am under attack.

Robert,
You are a member of Lavendergate/one sudbury and you know it. You threatened me on Patch and everyone knows it. Really, I am amazed at how an attacker can cry victim! Now, I am speaking, as I have since my first comment on Patch, as a resident of Sudbury. When I specifically blog as a business owner in town, I am very clear about it. Are you able to discern the difference? Now you slander my name and call me a liar. Slander is now part of your arsenal. All because I voice my opinion. Wow. How revealing.

This is breaking news?? Why is it that when 26 other teachers resigned at Curtis this summer it didn't make the Patch? When are people going to start to question the problems that are causing people to "flee"? There is a much bigger problem then 1 teacher resigning. Now we have an administrator on leave? What's going on?

You need to prove this. I just compared last years directory with this years, and only 20 STAFF are not there this year. Of those 20, 2 were food service, 6 were special education, 8 were teachers, 1 team chair, 2 were physical education and 1 was a curriculum specialist.
1 of the teachers took a promotion to a curriculum specialist at the central office
1 is still a curriculum specialist at the district level
1 Special Education is now at the elementary level
1 Food service is now in another position at elementary level
a few seem to have found out of town promotions, but I got too tired to find out where everyone went.
No way 26 TEACHERS left Curtis since last year.

teachers typically do not leave mid-year. perhaps there is more to this story, though I agree "flees" is a bit strong. Kirsten,as to examples of Swifty Wilson, all you have to do is be on the school distribution listing and aware of how she has handled recent issues (12 months). She might be smart (giving credit based on credentials), but she's politically naive or even tonedeaf.

Sudbury Citizen, you are rude and should apologize.
Kirsten, you went after Robert Fucci and while the wording could have been better, he is sincere in his committment to bring the news of Sudbury to its residents. With the current culture at SPS, every departure will come under scrutiny. As I've said before, parents do not trust the current administration. Switfy Wilson is arrogant and I can't believe Beeler or Iuliano would have tolerated her behavior, but Swifty and Gutch both seem to think they can do what they want, when they want, and how they want. Fire Swifty and vote Gutch out in 2013.

Sudbury Citizen,
Why don't you go back to 5:29pm on Friday, September 28, 2012 and both you and Stein will get your answers. I have a very full life and part of that life is to protect my children from living in an environment that is less than kind. I have also raised my children here and served on a number of Town committees and boards and have the need to get to the truth before anything else. Truth, yes, truth. Black and white. I do not need to throw mud or slander or attack to do that. I protect my children from those who do. And I do it vociferously because that is my way. The other Sudbury Citizens who are open to a questioning voice are the people I am speaking to. They are the residents who have been here since the sixties and seventies--long before Patch was born. I would be very happy to provide you with much documentation, printouts etc. of truths provided to certain people that went ignored and not published. Get used to me talking because that is what I do and your mud throwing won't stop it. As Edward Stark pointed out, don't read it if you don't like it. This is America.

Many of us have alot of respect for Mr. Stein and Ms. Vandujk's political activism in town. As a formerly apathetic voter, I salute them. What concerns me is we can't lose sight of the toxic management of our schools. Ms. Vandijk, please go to a SPSC meeting and watch as stressed out parents and teachers are treated like no-nothing intruders. Mr. Stein has himself been the victim of their horrible manners.
There are MANY of us who feel sick about how the schools are being run and how parents and and students have been mistreated. Our focus now should be getting good candidates to run for the school committee. We need people with strong character who are not afraid to let parents speak without a timer, who question unsubstantiated accusations that ruin careers and who actually show up and get to know the teachers they are squeezing. Our school system is the core of our town and it's in big trouble.
PS - I agree that "flees" was a little excessive, but The Fooch should absolutely be commended for his coverage of critical town issues. Stay big picture, people.

As a fellow journalist, I have to defend Rob's use of the word "flees." I personally thought the headline it was pretty darned funny. I usually remain quiet on these issues but given the drama which has occurred in town this year, "flees" seems to be an appropriate verb for what could very well have been a "get out of Dodge" situation!
No one knows - yet.
But it's a headline, it's a verb. Rob isn't trying to incite any more "drama" -- people in certain positions seem to doing a great job of same all by themselves!

As someone who is researching your school system and community, this is really sad to see. I cannot believe that any of this reflects the views of the stakeholders of either group. Typing in "Sudbury" in a Google search engine, this is the very first thing that comes up. I am sure that every person here cares a lot or passions would not run so high. The reality is, however, that this is how Sudbury will be seen to the rest of the world. I do not mean to preach, but your typed words do matter. Put on the lens of a newcomer and then read all of this...from the "news" to the comments. Is this your best?

I would suggest researching more than this article so you can understand the chaos that has been built in the school system since last November: Fired secretary suing both the school system and town for wrongful termination; a 25-year teacher suddenly dismissed, a 51A report filed with DCF, lies told to parents about the teacher's suddent absence and a financial settlement made out of court with that teacher; a Middle School administrator on paid leave and another 51A reported with DCF, and now this as reports of special ed teachers being forced to work through lunch are surfacing. Considering I broke all of these stories, then yes, this is my best and my numbers on these stories support my position. It's not my job to make the town look like paradise when there is turmoil. It's my job to tell the stories that are affecting the town's residents. Thank you for your feedback, Thomas.

Where else can you find a school committee that allows a principal to question little children without informing their parents for weeks and then refuses to admit it was wrong?
Where else can you find a superintendent who fires a teacher for breaking up a fight between second graders and when she receives a vote of no confidence from over 150 parents, the school committee endorses her because they don't want to admit they made a bad hire?
Where else can you find a town manager and two of three selectman at a bar after the posted closing hours and then later in the night have one selectman go missing while the other asks the police "may I help you"?
Where else can you find a town employee drive drunk on way to her third OUI and we turn around and hire a divisive resident part time to drive her around when she loses her license?
Oh and how can I forget where else can you find a Selectman who doesn't file or pay his federal income taxes until he gets caught nine years later, yet is appointed to a second term as chair of the board that sets tax policy for the entire town?

Good start Ed, but you left out the Islamic terrorist, the murder at the high school, the grave-robber, the ongoing thievery problems, the drugs, scollies for connected one at the high school, and others too numerous to mention.

Hey - it actually is a great time to consider moving to Sudbury. We are finally starting to clean up the mess around here. We have amazing (mostly non-elected) citizens who are driving positive change toward ethics, transparency and accountibility (see efforts to move from 3 to 5 selectmen). It's a very hopeful time.
However, the Lisa Gutch comment is an insult to every resident and parent who begged for help last year over the Noyes mess. Most parents there are still very uneasy (to put it mildly). Now she is ready to give "an accurate" account to a non-resident after a year of limiting the amount of time upset parents were allowed to speak? Awful. We'd all love to here this "accurate account." Bring it on!

Warning to Trick or Treaters. Don't go to Anne Wilson's house this Halloween.
Word has it, instead of giving out candy treats, she'll be handing out 51As.

Seriously, there needs to be an investigation into Wilson and her obnoxious friend Gulch, who is embarrassing, plain embarrassing with 'Mr. Schmidt'..I'm sure the 'quota' for all these firings/resignations, so close together warrant this..Sudbury is paying her salary and being used by this 'sicko' with an obvious personality disorder..very harmful. My stomach turned when I read her explanatory letter, with described the replacement, gleefully, as also a JUDGE OF A DANCE CONTEST as a Plus to have him quick back in the saddle there..as fast as the other staff member was sucker punched out of a career. You have permission, contact a Boston news station. This just wouldn't 'fly' anywhere in Massachusetts unchecked I would hope..
