Get A Head Start On Spring Wardrobes!

Spring Trends 2011

Punxsutawney Phil didn‘t see his shadow this year, so spring is just around the corner!  Let’s get the ball rolling and freshen up your wardrobe with the upcoming season’s vivid color combinations and blasts from the past.

In fashion, styles always come back around.  Spring trends for 2011 include everything from a revised military look to a 70s revival.  The most exciting part is that many designers have finally paid attention to the women who don’t walk the runways.  Fashions for this spring are not only comfortable but wearable for everyday women.

The following list is full of many ideas, some that you may like and some you may not.  The whole reason to look at this is to take bits and pieces that will allow you to add some flair to your wardrobe while still feeling like yourself.  Trends are not for everyone, but if you would like to add a bit of pizzazz and change to your wardrobe, then let’s take a look and see what‘s coming.

  • Bright, vibrant colors such as orange and yellow will show up from your head to your toes.  Try pairing a coral flirty top with a pair of khaki pants.
  • Shoes: Linda Shulman of ApparelStyle in Sudbury says, "Sand or neutral- toned cork or raffia wedges are perfect for the spring." Booties are also transitioning  into the warmer weather and can be worn with jeans, leggings or even skirts.
  • The nautical look is all around. Whether vertical or horizontal, stripes can be worn on a cute top underneath a casual jacket or perhaps with a pair of capris and platforms.
  • Accessories are colorful and fun.  Jewelry is being shown in lucite and golds, as well as plastic or wooden bangles.  Preppy accessories such as woven bracelets, tassled loafers, and striped totes also flow with the nautical theme. You will find scarves in every shape and color from silk to hand-dyed fabrics, and skinny belts that are supplementing wide belts this season.
  • Flowy dresses and skirts are showing in dozens of choices to flatter your body style.  Try a long skirt to the floor or perhaps a ruffled or tiered skirt that can carry you from now until the summer.
  • Cargo jacket or military-inspired vest (tough looking top and flirty bottom)
  • High-waisted, wide leg flare pants (wear with wedged heels and a tucked in top to make you look lean and long). Comfortable and stylish.
  • Great prints all mixed up with tops and bottoms (stick to 1 or 2 colors or some in the same family)
  • Trench dresses (a mix of a trench coat and sheath)
  • Sheer layers (wear them underneath a full top so it shows through on the bottom)
  • Low-key and desert-inspired colors such as rust, sienna, sand
  • Japanese inspired styles (obi belts, satin bright colors)
  • Neutrals and nudes (if you don’t want to feel washed out they suggest wearing a simple black or even pop of red on top)
  • Looser, long, billowy blouses and swingy dresses.
  • Biker jackets: throw one over a T-shirt and jeans or a flowy dress to spice up the night.

More than anything I would like you to remember that these are just suggestions and that you should be yourself by picking and choosing subtle pieces that work to perk up your own wardrobe and not change who you are!
