A day and half of hype over the possibility of Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks driving through the streets of Sudbury while filming scenes for "Captain Phillips" ended with a thud.

At about 3 p.m. construction crews began taking down the signs that transformed downtown Sudbury into downtown Underhill, Vt., the home of real life Capt. Richard Phillips, who saved his crew in 2009 by allowing himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates.

According to publicist Alex Worman in an email sent to Sudbury Patch, the driving plans changed.

"We completed our driving scenes in the Lincoln area," he said.

Sudbury Police Lt. Scott Nix said he received a call from the crew at about 2-2:15 p.m. saying the plans were "a no-go."

"They never showed up (in Sudbury)," he said.

Original plans called for scenes to be shot today in downtown Sudbury and at the Wayside Inn. Those plans changed earlier this week, as filming was rescheduled for Wednesday. Plans for the Wayside Inn were cancelled all together.
