Last Friday, the Lincoln-Sudbury girls swim and dive team had its last dual meet of the season against powerhouse rival Wayland.
It was an emotional day for some as it was the last dual meet for the senior girls, including Sammi Alarie, Ann-Marie Billig, Nathalie Cabrera, Shay Darcey, Taylor Dawson, Emma Jarczyk, Catherine MacKeen, Leah McCabe, and Alicia Perry. The girls had worked very hard during the week to prepare for the tough meet but, even with some great swims, it wasn’t enough to beat Wayland. The final score was 81-100.
The team of Katherine O’Shea, Ansley Baker, Alicia Perry and Leah McCabe started off the meet with an extremely close race in the 200 medley relay. They just got out-touched by 0.2 seconds. In the 200 freestyle Catherine MacKeen finished first for L-S, taking fourth overall.
Perry placed second in the 200 individual medley. Caroline Hultin also did well in this event. In the 50 freestyle, Baker and Catherine Thomas both scored points for L-S, coming in first and fifth.
Kim Yang, Emma Jarczyk, and Clara Shealy continued their diving domination by sweeping the diving portion of the meet. Perry and Michela Eckhouse then finished third and fifth in the 100 butterfly to score points for L-S.
O’Shea won the 100 freestyle with McCabe also scoring points for L-S. In the 500 freestyle, MacKeen swam to fourth place, with Lexi Barrera finishing after her. The team of McCabe, Thomas, Jenny Genovese and MacKeen came in second in the 200 freestyle relay.
Following the relay, O’Shea and Ann-Marie Billig scored for L-S in the 100 backstroke. O’Shea came in second and Billig also had a fast time and placed fifth. Baker won the 100 breaststroke with Hultin and Eugenia Almandoz coming in second and fifth. To conclude the meet, Emily Huang, Barrera, Eckhouse and Genovese had the fastest time for L-S in the 400 freestyle relay.
Even though the girls team lost, they were fired up for the meet and will carry on this motivation while preparing for DCLs this week. The girls Dual County League Championships will be Friday, Feb. 1 at Atkinson Pool.
