Lincoln-Sudbury Girls XC Team Earns DCL Title
Warriors head into postseason after sweep of Newton South, Wayland.
In their final dual meets of the season on Wednesday, the Lincoln-Sudbury girls cross country team posted a 20-40 win over perennial rival Newton-South and a 15-48 near sweep of Wayland.
The wins completed a five-year dual meet winning streak, and earned L-S the DCL regular-season league championship title.
Running in a pack for the first 1.5 miles, the squad positioned itself to capture consecutive low-point positions. The strategy worked, with the first five L-S runners finishing within 40 seconds near the front of the race. Andrea Keklak and Marika Crowe crossed the finish line at approximately 17:00, followed by Megan Broecker at 17:25, Emily Knaul at 17:34 and Katie LaScaleia at 17:39, all before the second N-S runner and the first Wayland runner. All but Keklak completed the 2.75-mile course in personal-best times.
The Warriors now head into the postseason with an invitational meet on Saturday in Burnt Hills, N.Y., the DCL championships on Oct. 27 at L-S, the Eastern Divisionals on Nov. 13 in Boston at Franklin Park, and the State Meet on Nov. 20 at the Gardner Golf Course in Gardner.
