Due to the blizzard, Sudbury Patch's "Five Things You Need to Know Today" column has been canceled today.

Here is the latest on the blizzard from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency:

Hundreds of MassDOT employees and thousands of hired crew and equipment are clearing roads this morning as the storm passes through Massachusetts.  Heavy snow and coastal flooding are key concerns.  MEMA reported 30,000 power outages as of early morning, with that number expected to decline during the next several hours.

All districts remain in plowing operations except for southern parts of district 5 in the Cape Cod area which have switched to patrolling and spreading operations. Pavement temperatures are rising slowly but remain below freezing everywhere except for the Cape Cod area.  Strong sustained winds and gusts continue statewide with the highest gusts near the coast.  State police have lowered the speed limit on Interstate 90 to 40 mph from the New York line to Allston/Brighton.  Morrissey Blvd is closed between Freeport St and UMASS due to flooding.  Downed poles in Lakeville at Route 18 have been cleared and the road has reopened. MassDOT as of early morning reported 3,762 pieces of equipment and 692 MassDOT employees working to clear roads statewide.  As many as 4,000 crews are available and have been working throughout the night.  Travel this morning is not recommended if it can be avoided, to allow the storm to pass and roads to be cleared.
