POLL: Were You Surprised to See Dirty Water Coming from Your Taps?
Sudbury residents, business owners were advised to not wash clothing.
Thanks to a pumping station that was brought online on Thursday, water conditions in the southeast region of Sudbury were affected.
Certain residents or business owners in the area were told in a release that sediments (natural minerals found in ground water) were disturbed by this process, causing tap water to become discolored or dirty.
Although these sediments are not considered harmful, those washing laundry while the water is discolored would likely see stained clothes.
One resident, John McQueen, wrote an email to Sudbury Patch complaining there was a lack of communication between Sudbury Water District, the Department of Public Works and the public regarding this issue.
So we wanted to know: How many people were affected by the discolored water? Take our poll and tell us how the discolored water affected you at your home or business.

Residents should have been notified!!!! I don't like giving my pets brown water, I would have bought some spring water- I had laundry to do today- this is not right! But there are alot of things with the water dept that is shady and underhanded-

We're thinking we may need to buy a whole house filter. We only moved here in September, but this seems to happen regularly. No laundry, and hesitant to bathe and do dishes - the water is really brown still!

The town water has been terrible for years and we pay top dollar for every gallon.

Actually, if the discoloration is from the new pumping station going on-line, the residue will be temporary. It's likely from either or both dirt or iron from the new pipes.
PMOTW - you couldn't be more wrong. Sudbury consistently ranks as one of the highest water quality towns in the entire region, let alone state. And if we were paying MWRA water rates, the cost would be approximately 500% greater - EACH year!
