Scott Nassa Eyes Another Run for SPS Committee
10 residents have pulled papers for the March 25 Annual Town Election.
Two Sudbury residents have pulled papers for the March 25 Annual Town Election with the hope of joining the Sudbury Public Schools Committee.
One of those residents is Scott Nassa, who lost out in his bid two years ago to current members Chair Rich Robison and Ellen Winer Joachim.
"I can confirm that I have pulled papers, gathered the necessary signatures and will submit them to the Town Clerk's office this week," Nassa told Sudbury Patch in an email
The other resident challenging for SPS Committee is Matthew Barach.
They are vying for Vice Chair Lisa Gutch's seat. As of 9 a.m., today, she had not pulled papers for re-election, Town Clerk Rosemary Harvell said.
"Residents have until Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. to pull papers," she said.
Among the incumbents who have pulled papers so far is Board of Selectmen Vice Chair Bob Haarde.
Haarde's seat is the lone seat available this year. Haarde was a key figure in the investigation into last year's Lavendergate scandal.
Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School board members Kevin Matthews and Radha Gargeya have also pulled papers for re-election, as has Goodnow Library Trustee Carol Hull.
Martin Long is vying for the Planning Board.
Richard Williamson has pulled papers for Park and Recreation.
Harvel said candidates have until Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. to return their signed papers to the Town Clerk’s office.
There are 15 positions in total available for Annual Town Election.:
- Board of Selectmen - One 3-year term
- Board of Assessors - One 3-year term
- Goodnow Library Trustee - Two 3-year terms
- Board of Health - One 3-year term
- Park & Recreation Commission - Two 3-year terms
- Park & Recreation Commission - Two 2-year terms
- Planning Board - Two 3-year terms
- Sudbury School Committee - One 3-year term
- Sudbury Housing Authority - One 5-year term
Included as part of the Annual Town Election will be an election of two members for three years each to the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional District School Committee.

My vote will be for Scott Nassa. He is a man of integrity. He is always willing to listen and ask the tough questions. Which is what our current SC is lacking. We need someone who is going to take the time to listen to the community, right now the SC gives each speaker 3 min, and they are busy rolling their eyes and making faces.

During the last election, an email Scott Nassa sent to Gutch ended up going viral. In my opinion, the behavior of the Gutch and some of her political allies in this case was reprehensible -- especially if, as I have heard, Nassa’s family was harassed in church.
That said, the content of the email was disturbing. I hope Nassa addresses the entire situation if he does in fact run.

Scott Nassa's got my vote. He REALLY cares about this town and wants GOOD things to happen, especially as he has 2 young children, 1 currently in the Sudbury public school system. He is not afraid to dig for the truth, ask tough questions, and be proactive about making positive change happen in this town.

Trust me, I am looking for every reason to vote for Scott, I agree sweeping changes are needed. But I just cannot get his email out of my mind from the last election cycle. Too bad it was leaked, but I was shocked. Unless I am missing an inside story here, I lost respect for him after reading that email. I definitely would not use the word "humble" to describe that person. If I unleashed an email like that, I would not deserve to hold a town office like the school committee. Sorry.

Given the choice of Scott Nassa ( that email was sent privately to Lisa Gutch who then sent it to everyone that had kids at SPS, she had the list ) verses Mathew Barach who brags on his web site to charge only $ 1,000. for a divorce I would vote for Scott Nassa.

SC - a divorce attorney does not wreck a marriage. They are only the representative to dissolve a marriage that was broken by the couple. This has nothing to do with his ability to serve where he lives. Let's find out what he has to say first instead of attacking his profession.

Let's hope that this election season is not a repeat of the past five. People tend to forget (or they don't care) that often there are children of candidates that become the victims of the personal attacks. Too often private email transmissions include false information that have long lasting damaging effects on both the candidate and the family. We should celebrate those who put themselves out there and stick to the issues. Personally, I am not going to tolerate tactics such as trying to get people fired, hacking into business relationships systems and out an out fabrications of positions. Meet and greets offered by sitting officials should be disallowed as well. I hope we all hold our elected, appointed and employed to a higher standard which shouldn't be that hard hard given the standard set over the years has been quite low.
We are all neighbors - even during election season.

Completely unrelated, but I observe that there are four positions open on Park & Recreation Commission--two for two years, and two for three years.
For historical reasons, we had arrived at the situation in which four Commissioners were elected in 2010, one in 2011, and zero in 2012. This schedule "smoothes out" the elections, leaving us with one Park & Rec opening in 2013, two openings in 2014, and two in 2015. Commissioners will--except where specifically noted--serve three year terms.
Both for continuity among Commissioners and to permit new citizen engagement each year, I believe the resulting schedule is a decided improvement over what we have.
