Sudbury Man Who Drove Onto Willis Lake Facing 2 Charges
Resident will be summonsed to court at a later date.
The Sudbury resident who drove a white sedan onto frozen Willis Lake on Jan. 24 will face two charges, the Sudbury Police Department announced today.
According to Lt. Robert Grady, the 27-year-old male will be summonsed to court at a later date and be charged with:
- OUI in a recreational vehicle;
- Wanton destruction of property (the car).
Grady said the resident's name can't be released until after his arraignment.
On Jan. 24 emergency personnel responded to Willis Lake after receiving a report of a car stuck on the ice just after midnight.
The male driver and his female companion were transported to Emerson Hospital for precautionary reasons, Lt. Scott Nix said at the time.
While trying to tow out the car, the towing mechanism broke through the ice and was partially submerged.
It took nearly 17 hours for a towing company to pull the car out.
