Sudbury Resident Helps Police Capture Alleged Mail Thieves

The following arrest information was supplied by the Sudbury Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A call to the Sudbury Police Department Tuesday morning about an alleged larceny resulted in the arrest of two men, including one who was caught wearing a monitoring bracelet.

According to Lt. Robert Grady, a resident of Greenhill Road called to report witnessing two men in a black Ford Taurus steal mail from her mailbox.

Soon after the call came in, Sgt. John Harris witnessed the Taurus turn on to Boston Post Road via King Philip Road. After Harris was able to identify the vehicle from the description given by the Greenhill Road resident, he following the car to Concord Road, where he witnessed the passenger of the car open a residential mailbox and place something in it.

According to Grady, Harris then stopped the car, went back to the Concord Road mailbox, viewed two pieces of mail with different addresses, and placed the two men in custody.

During a search of the car, another piece of mail was found, allegedly stolen from another part of Sudbury.

Mark A. Mitchell, 52, of 1 Blakely Circle in Randolph, faces charges of larceny under $250 and receiving stolen property (under $250).

Sirewl R. Cox, 36, of 2 Millmont St. in Roxbury, faces charges of larceny under $250 (two counts) and receiving stolen property (under $250)

During Harris's investigation, he noticed Cox was wearing a monitoring bracelet on his ankle. Cox had been out on bail while facing a federal criminal indictment. Grady said the charges were not known as of Wednesday morning. Federal authorities were contacted by Sudbury police regarding the arrest of Cox.

Both men were transported to Framingham District Court at 1:27 p.m. on Tuesday for their arraignment. No other details were made available.
