Weekend Happenings: Antiques, Dessert, Spider Plants and More
Check out our picks for local events this weekend.
When/Where: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. at Acton Memorial Library (486 Main St., Acton)
The Buzz: this is your chance to enjoy catered dessert as area musicians tinkle the ivories of the historic piano donated to the library by John and Mary Fitzgerald (grandparents of John. F., Robert F. and Edward M. Kennedy). Proceeds from the event will support the library.
Price: $15 in advance, $20 at the door
When/Where: Saturday, 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. at Russell's Garden Center (397 Boston Post Rd, Wayland)
The Buzz: Wayland's Habitat for Humanity project is moving forward, with fundraising being a chief element of the process. This event will feature live music, wine and beer, heavy hors d’ouevres and raffles with all proceeds going to bring the project to fruition.
When/Where: Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit (169 Rice Rd, Wayland)
The Buzz: The chances of getting a ticket to a local taping of "Antiques Roadshow" are pretty slim. This is your next best option. Bring that antique you rescued from grandma's attic and find out what it's worth. If antiques aren't enough, the bake sale, lunch and refreshments might make it worthwhile.
Price: $20 per item.
When/Where: Saturday, 12:30 p.m. at Ephraim Curtis Middle School (22 Pratts Mill Road, Sudbury)
The Buzz: This is your chance to experience martial arts up close. Various techniques, weapons and more will be demonstrated at 2:30 p.m.
Price: Adults, $5; children 12 and under, free
When/Where: Sunday, 1 p.m. at Wellesley College Botanical Gardens (106 Central St., Wellesley)
The Buzz: This event is geared toward children and happens every month with a different theme. This month, children will learn about carnivorous plants, hear spooky tales about other strange plants and even plant a spider plant to take home as a souvenir.
