Innkeeper: No Reason Given on Change of Hanks Filming Plans

The Wayside Inn's John Cowden, Jr., says the Academy Award-winning actor did have lunch at the historic inn.

The one question Sudbury residents are asking today regarding Tom Hanks not filming in town is: What happened? Hanks was scheduled to film drive-through scenes in Town Center, and scenes at The Wayside Inn, earlier this week for the filming of "Captain Phillips." Originally planned to shoot in town on Thursday, the Sudbury Police Department was notified filming would be bumped up by one day. But Hanks never showed up. Neither did the film crew. According to publicist Alex Worman in an email sent to Sudbury Patch on Thursday, the driving plans changed. "We completed our driving scenes in the Lincoln area," he said. But it turns out Hanks was indeed in Sudbury — for lunch. According to Wayside Inn Innkeeper John Cowden, Jr., Hanks and co-…

Hanks and Crew Drop Filming Plans for Sudbury (Video)

Driving scenes were shot in Lincoln.

A day and half of hype over the possibility of Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks driving through the streets of Sudbury while filming scenes for "Captain Phillips" ended with a thud. At about 3 p.m. construction crews began taking down the signs that transformed downtown Sudbury into downtown Underhill, Vt., the home of real life Capt. Richard Phillips, who saved his crew in 2009 by allowing himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates. According to publicist Alex Worman in an email sent to Sudbury Patch, the driving plans changed. "We completed our driving scenes in the Lincoln area," he said. Sudbury Police Lt. Scott Nix said he received a call from the crew at about 2-2:15 p.m. saying the plans were "a no-go." "They never showed up…

Publicist: Filming of 'Captain Phillips' May Not Happen in Sudbury

Despite changes to Town Center landscape, production is in doubt.

UPDATED: 6:50 P.M. The construction crew just shared plans to film today are off due to a lack of daylight. No word on when or if they will try again. ******* Despite hours of work by a construction crew, transforming Sudbury Town Center into the town center of Underhill, Vt., for the filming of scenes for the movie "Captain Phillips," publicist Alex Worman told Sudbury Patch in an email the plans may be scrapped. After dozens of fans waited in Sudbury Town Center in anticipation of the arrival of the movie's star, Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks, Worman answered an email just after 4 p.m. with the news Sudbury may not be used after all. "There is only the slimmest possibility we will be in Sudbury today," Worman said in the email. "I can't…

I didn't realize until today that the Palladian window over the Town Hall sign is actually painted plywood! Perhaps the Film budget might find room for a gift to Sudbury in the form of a refurbished window..... it never hurts to ask.   more ›

Filming of Tom Hanks Movie Happening Today

Driving scenes will be filmed on Concord Road.

In a last-minute change of plans, filming for "Captain Phillips," starring Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks, will happen today instead of tomorrow, Sudbury Police Lt. Scott Nix said. Original plans were for film crews to shoot scenes of Hanks driving on Concord Road tomorrow between 9 a.m. and noon. Nix said instead those scenes will be shot today at about 1 p.m. Nix said to accommodate the filming efforts, portions of Concord Road will shut down sporadically. "They would have liked to shut down the road (completely)," Nix said. Portions of Concord Road will be blocked off from traffic for "3 to 4 minutes at a time," Nix said. "If traffic starts to get backed up, we'll (stop) filming to let traffic through." Nix also said plans to …
