(EDITOR'S NOTE: The following was submitted by Micki Reinhorn.)

Featured Speakers:

  *   Dr. David Hemenway, a nationally renowned expert on gun violence and the author of Private Guns, Public Health.  He is a professor at the Harvard School of Public Health.

  *   Dr. Michael Hirsh, acting Commissioner of Public Health for the City of Worcester, Pediatric Trauma Surgeon at UMass and champion of a successful gun buyback program in MA.

Please forward this email to at least 10 friends and please bring a few friends with you to the event. An educated citizenry is the first step in this process of meaningful change.  Going forward, we will mobilize citizens to work together on specific initiatives to reduce gun violence.    Many responsible gun owners support this effort and we need to form a united coalition in order to be effective.  Mark Jan 16th on your calendar and please rsvp through the event section of the Facebook group, Citizens for Sensible Gun Policies, so that we can all become better educated about guns, gun safety and meaningful gun laws.

Not surprisingly, academic pursuits play an important role in a high school serving two affluent communities. Some 95 percent of all students here go on to college following graduation. Its students score well on SATs and other standardized tests. The roster of activities includes the Asian cultures club, culinary club, ski and snowboarding club, math team and Web club, which illustrates the school's commitment to diversity and innovation.

Are citizens going to be permitted to speak at this event or only the panel members? If the latter, will any person be invited to be a panel member who is not in favor of further gun regulations, or is this event intended to be a tent revival? If the latter, will people favoring further gun restrictions please stop using the word "conversation" and use the term "monologue" instead?
