As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration, Congregation Beth El of Sudbury presents an In-house Scholar Series. Three Beth El members who are teachers in the broader community will share their stories of their connections to Beth El, their evolving Judaism, and the interrelationship between Judaism and their life's work.

On Wednesday January 16, from 7:30 – 9:00 pm, the series will begin with Bernie Horn, a Professor of English at Framingham State University. He will speak on The Sources of My Poetry in Family, Community, Text, and Israel. Bernie will share how he came to Beth El more than 28 years ago, becoming a gabbai and writing divrei Torah, his complicated connection to Israel, his poetry, as well as his translations of Yehuda Amichai, and "becoming infected" by Amichai. Bernie has found that his recent poems contain, with no conscious intention, lines from Torah or Midrashic elements, and he will explain that fascinating process.

The In-house Scholar Series is free and open to the public. No registration is required. The series continues on January 30th and February 13th. Learn more by calling the Beth El office at 978-443-9622 or visiting the website at www.bethelsudbury.org .
