will speak at the Sudbury Historical Society's Feb. 3rd program
"OUR HISTORY MATTERS: REKINDLING AWE, ASPIRATION AND CIVIC ATTACHMENT"
Sudbury Historical Society presents William Hosley, celebrated historian and scholar, who will talk about the need to rekindle awe, aspiration and civic attachment in our local communities.
Bill Hosley is a prolific scholar, writer and public speaker and one of the leading experts on New England history and art. Having studied more than 750 museums and historic libraries, Bill has concluded that small is, indeed, beautiful. He was formerly Executive Director of the New Haven Museum and the Antiquarian & Landmarks Society, as well as a curator at Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford.
Today’s students are entering adult responsibilities and citizenship with the lowest level of historical literacy ever measured. This is unfortunate because history, as we know, is the key to critical analysis and the formation of informed perspective. That is true enough! But, it is also the key to something that may be more important, civic attachment.
History in the larger sense, local history in particular, is essential for instilling a sense of place, past and community. The good news is that community-based historical organizations and libraries are increasingly doing the work that used to be done in church, school, and home, and they are doing it increasingly well because they are keeping it real and keeping it local!
This is an especially appropriate topic for The Sudbury Historical Society because the society is now very busy working on finding a permanent home to house its historical acquisitions in order to preserve Sudbury's history and have it available for generations to come! Students are encouraged to attend this meeting.
Also, the Arcadia book "Images of America - Sudbury" will be available at the meeting, as well as, Monday thru Friday, 1-5pm, at the Society's headquarters on the 2nd floor of Town Hall!
Join us on Sunday, February 3rd, at 2 p.m. in the Sudbury Town Hall for this great program and refreshments will be served following the . There is no fee, although donations are gratefully accepted.

The Town Clerk's offices are located here. Other departments located in this building include the Veterans Office.
No payments are made at the Town Clerk’s office, other than dog licenses. All tax bills are paid at the Collector’s office in the Flynn building.
All other Town offices are located at the Flynn Building (278 Old Sudbury Road).
