Lincoln-Sudbury Students Launch "Wasteland" Series, Hold Auditions

Check out Goodnow Library's new iPads.

1. Three Lincoln-Sudbury students are currently holding video auditions for their new online video series, “Wasteland.” This Breakfast Club-inspired high school drama explores aspects of teenage life such as relationships, betrayal, violence, social pressure, redemption, loyalty, and truth.  The video audition submission period closes August 22, 2013 at 11:59pm.

Actors should record themselves performing any one of six monologue selections found at www.facebook.com/WastelandShow and submit to the Wasteland staff’s email address,the.wasteland.info@gmail.com. Those selected for callbacks will be notified following assessment of their submission. Full instructions for submitting video auditions, as well as getting involved in behind-the-scenes work, are available on the “Wasteland” Facebook page.

In addition to acting opportunities, “Wasteland” will give area high school students a unique opportunity to participate in all aspects of the video series’ production. Available positions include:  video editor, music composer, costume designer, location scout and publicist.

“Wasteland,” an original series written and produced completely by high school students, is the story of Chris O’Riley, a rising high school athlete, who loses everything after a shocking betrayal. Sentenced to attend group therapy sessions, O’Riley finds that there still may be time to clear his name if he is willing to accept help from a group of misfits.

This eight-episode series, now leaving its year-long planning stage, was created and written by Charlotte Balogh, Matt Cruz, and Grant Sorbo. Balogh (Syracuse University, 2017), Cruz (Champlain College, 2017), and Sorbo (Lincoln-Sudbury, 2014) publicly announced their plans for the original series in mid-July on the project’s official Facebook page: www.facebook.com/WastelandShow.

The iPads are attracting attention in the Children’s Room, where five new tablets have been installed. Adults and teens can use five additional iPads set up on the library’s second floor.

The iPads in the Children’s Room are loaded with popular applications such as Paint Sparkles Draw – My First Coloring Book, PBS’ Wild Kratts Creature Math and Disney’s Don’t Let the Pigeon Run this App!

Adult and teen iPads let users access websites and apps, ranging from The Wall Street Journal, Web MD, Epicurious Recipes, National Geographic Atlas and Trip Advisor to Art Studio and Pandora Radio. Cult favorite Angry Birds leads the games lineup, which includes Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble and Yatzee.

Apple tablets operate with a touchscreen that includes a virtual keyboard, and connect to the Internet wirelessly. They’re a gift from the Goodnow Library Foundation, paid for by funds raised through last October’s highly successful 150th Anniversary Gala.

The Foundation has also purchased a wireless printer. The printer can be used by anyone with an Apple device on the library’s network through built-in AirPrint technology (copies are available for a small fee). What’s more, anyone who has an Android device or Windows laptop can attach their print job to an email and send it to the library printer.

The iPads and new printer are the first of a series of Foundation purchases to update Goodnow’s technology. The Foundation is exploring other technology additions, such as 27-inch iMac computers, Apple TV, and charging carts.

Anyone interested in helping the library purchase new technology can get more information about the Goodnow Library Foundation through its website at http://www.goodnow-foundation.org/.
