Lincoln-Sudbury RSD Conducts Internal Investigations Training

Ten supervisory employees from the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School District (RSD) recently participated in a half-day training focusing on Conducting Internal Investigation of Discrimination Complaints, held November 14 at Lincoln Sudbury High School. The Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), the district’s property and casualty insurance provider, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Commission against Discrimination (MCAD), offered the training free of charge.

During the training session, participants reviewed applicable laws regarding civil rights in the workplace; learned about employer responsibilities related to preventing and addressing discrimination, harassment and retaliation; and studied effective methods for conducting a comprehensive investigation. The course incorporated interactive practice sessions focusing on investigation skills, using realistic sample cases and scenarios. In order to participate in the course, attendees were required to have completed an MCAD-MIIA training on Preventing and Addressing Workplace Discrimination as a prerequisite.

“The purpose of this training enables our staff to follow fair and consistent practices to assure our commitment to a work environment that is free of sexual or discriminatory harassment,” noted Lincoln-Sudbury RSD Superintendent/Principal Bella Wong. “We found our trainers to be very courteous, knowledgeable and able to provide adept responses to all of our questions.  Offered at no additional cost and at our convenience underscores the value MIIA places on proactive training to better support our human resources program for the benefit of our school district.”

Massachusetts employers, including school systems, cannot discriminate against current or prospective employees based on race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, criminal record (inquiries only), handicap (disability), mental illness, retaliation, sexual harassment, sexual orientation, genetics, and active military. Upon completion of these and other MIIA risk- and loss-prevention programs, participating entities are eligible to receive insurance premium credits through the MIIA Rewards Programs thereby reducing property and casualty insurance costs.
