LS team wins the BIG LEX National debate tournament in Lexington on 01/18/2014

LS Juniors Rohan Shankar and Natasha Kedlec won first place in Public Forum at BIG LEX National tournament held on 01/18/2014.  There were 124 debate teams competing in the Public Forum.

Nearly 800 high school debaters from across the country attended the annual Lexington Winter Invitational, one of the largest school-run tournaments in the country.


The competition, known in debate circles as Big Lex, runs from Friday through Monday of Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, Jan. 17-20, and encompasses the three styles of high school debate: Lincoln-Douglas, public forum and policy. Students from   85 schools representing 18 states and the District of Columbia have already registered for the event.

Rohan Shankar and Natasha Kedlec also won the first place in state wide local tournament in Newton South High School on 01/11/2014.

Rohan and Natasha now have two bids from the National tournaments, qualifying them to participate in TOC (tournament of champions) nation’s most prestigious debate tournament in April 2014.
