Community Center Offers Music Therapy for Non-Verbal Children

The course takes place Thursdays from April 3 to May 15.

The Fairbank Community Center is offering a month-long music course for non-verbal children and their parents that will help develop communication skills.

According to the Town of Sudbury website, the course will be led by Sarah Tree, MT-BC. It will take place on Thursday from 5:15-6 p.m. from April 3 to May 15.

"Music making and instrument play is a fun and natural way to communicate," the description of the course said. "Using instruments, our bodies and our voices, we will create music as a group to support the development of verbal and non-verbal communication skills."

The goals for the group are to increase communication skills, imitating sounds, choice making, and participation in a group activity.

Parents will not simply drop off their children each week. Instead, they are required to stay and participate in the sessions.

The cost of the group is $254 per child, and $191 for a second child from the same family.
