Especially for Pets Donates $10K to Buddy Dog Humane Society

Coco, a 3-year-old chocolate labrador retriever, recently had cruciate surgery as a result of the recent donation made by Especially for Pets and their generous customers. Without this surgery, her mobility would have been severely impeded, making even the shortest of walks painful and nearly impossible. Coco is just one of approximately 1000 animals that will be in the care of Buddy Dog Humane Society this year.

Each quarter, a different local non-profit organization is chosen to receive customer donations when their pets’ nails are clipped at any Especially for Pets’ seven store locations. For the second quarter of this year, $10,050 was raised. The check was presented to Erin Stelmach, Buddy Dog’s Special Events Coordinator at Especially for Pets in Sudbury on June 27.  

Buddy Dog Humane Society, founded in 1961 in Sudbury, is a non-profit dedicated to finding forever homes for dogs and cats. The Society is incorporated with one main objective, ‘giving a new lease on life to impounded dogs and cats.’ Buddy Dog accepts homeless dogs and cats, in good health and friendly disposition, which could, without their help, be destroyed. The animals find refuge at their shelter and can depend on becoming someone’s forever friend. There is no time limit on their stay.

Erin Stelmach expressed her gratitude:  “Buddy Dog Humane Society is extremely grateful to be the recipient of such a generous donation from Especially for Pets. These funds will be used primarily for providing necessary medical care for the many dogs and cats that will come to Buddy Dog Humane Society to enter into our adoption program. One example is Coco who received her cruciate surgery.  In addition to basic vaccines, it is not unusual for an animal to need further medical care such as a dental procedure, heartworm treatments, growth removals and biopsies or other types of surgeries. It is amazing how expensive it is to maintain an animal shelter and we thank Especially For Pets for helping Buddy Dog Humane Society in our mission.”
