Landham Road Closed Until Further Notice

Originally scheduled as a three-week job, repairs on the bridge will now take longer.

What was supposed to take about three weeks to complete is now up in the air.

The Landham Road emergency bridge construction is taking longer than expected, and traffic will remain detoured from Woodside Road to Boston Post Road until further notice, the Town of Sudbury said in a statement.

"Excavation must be performed from the middle of the road so traffic must seek an alternate route," the statement read. "Detours have been set up to help the traffic flow. This schedule has changed due to matters beyond our control."

DPW Director Bill Place said on Aug. 1 the department became aware of the issue last month when it received a call about a pothole in the area.
Place said the metal culvert, which is more than 40 years old, will disintegrate as rusting progresses.

A call to Place at his DPW office was not answered on Aug. 15.

Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix said his officers have been busy monitoring traffic on the detour roads.

"We try to monitor the detour routes and make sure cars are driving appropriately given the residential neighborhoods," he said.

The overall cost of the project was projected to be roughly $200,000.
