One of New York Post’s ‘Bag Men’ Raising Money for Track Nationals

Salaheddin Barhoum, a Revere High School student, has set up a GoFundMe account to chase his dream.

Salaheddin Barhoum, one of the New York Post’s “Bag Men” who was falsely labeled as a Boston Marathon bombing suspect last April, has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money to run at track nationals.

“People know me from the news and some have a bad image of me,” he wrote on his fundraising page, “but I’m just a human chasing the dream.”

Barhoum, a Revere High School student, wrote he wants to attend the national meet with his friend Tarik, who is the best high jumper in their conference, the Northeastern Conference.

“I love track so much,” he wrote.

Barhoum, a Moroccan American, had raised $280 of his $1,000 goal as of Friday afternoon.

“I don’t have a job to get money from and my family doesn’t have a lot of money to help me,” he wrote. “We have until March 1st to make [our] dream come true.”

The New York Post falsely indicated Barhoum, then 16, and his 24-year-old friend Yassine Zaimi as suspects in the days after the bombing.

My kid had a job too, and paid back every penny. I don't suppose it's likely that your kids will merit the kind of (unfunded) scholastic honors mine did (did I mention the several thousand dollars? Do you have several thousand dollars to spare? Be honest.), but I sincerely hope that you're never in a position to require the kindness of strangers, and I equally hope that if you ever do, in this town, you have a nice Anglo name.

your arrogance is amazing. how dare you presume that your kid is smarter than anyone else's. if you think that your name is a disadvantage then you are a perpetual victim, and will never rise above it. this discussion is over. best wishes to you and your daughter.

John, I presume my kid is smarter than yours because she's mine, and yours are yours, and you seem to have some issues with reading comprehension, possibly indicating a mild disability of the sort which generally has some genetic component. Best wishes!
