Sudbury July Fourth Road Race Celebrating 50th Anniversary

The race is scheduled to take place on Independence Day at 8:30 a.m.

This Fourth of July marks a milestone for planners of the town's annual July Fourth Road Race, as the event celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Scheduled for Friday, July 4, day of registration will take place beginning at 7:30 a.m., though registration is encouraged in advance by visiting the following link by Wednesday, July 2.

In addition, registration forms can be picked up in person at Goodnow Library, Brines Sporting Goods, Graphic Connections and Park and Recreation at the Fairbank Center, though those forms must be postmarked as of Friday.

For those 14 years old and above who preregister, the cost is $15, while post-registration will cost $20 for adults. Children nine to thirteen years old who sign up will pay $10 regardless of when they register. No children under nine years old can run the race.

Organizers added that pre-registration will ensure that participants will receive the t-shirt size of their choice.

Friday's race begins at 8:30 a.m. for runners in the 1.5-mile race who are 9-13 years old. At 9 a.m., runners of the 3.75-mile race who are older than 14 years old will begin.

The race takes place at Featherland Park, starting at the entrance on Concord Road. Participants and spectators are asked to enter through the Featherland parking lot near the Morse Road entrance.

Trophies will be handed out to the first three finishers in each of the 11 age groups, though only Sudbury residents will be eligible to win prizes.

Because it is the 50th running of the race, there will also be commemorative running caps and pint glasses available as prizes and raffle items, with some available for purchase as well.
