Sudbury Resident Helps Present Donate Life Award

Bob Canfield has a personal bond with organ donation efforts.

Bob Canfield of Sudbury, a volunteer with New England Organ Bank, recently was one of the presenters of the Donate Life Champion award for outstanding support of organ tissue donation.

Canfield has volunteered with NEOB ever since his wife became and organ donor after her passing.

This year, NEOB recognized Jay Heaps for his efforts and presented the New England Revolution coach with the award. The award, in its inaugural year, is given to select members of the athletic community across the country who have inspired others to give the gifts of life, sight and mobility.

Laura Dempsey from New England Organ Bank was the other presenter.

“I’m honored to accept this award and help further awareness of the importance of organ donation. It’s a cause that’s close to me and my family following my mother’s double-lung transplant, and I hope more people realize the gift donation gives families in need,” Heaps said in a release.

Dempsey said that Heaps was chosen for the award based on his commitment to the important cause. His mother suffered from congenital lung disease and received a double lung transplant before her death in 2012.
