The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Middlesex County, which includes Sudbury.

The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. A watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms to develop.

------------

Hold on to your hats, folks. It's going to be a bit windy the rest of the day into tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the area, including Sudbury, from 2-8 p.m.

Winds will pick up from the south from 15-25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.

Most of southern New England is in the advisory, except for the South Coast.

The strongest winds are expected from mid to late afternoon. Stronger gusts are possible as a cold front approaches in the early evening.

The wind may be strong enough to snap branches or small trees, and some power outages are possible.

A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31-39 mph, or gusts from 46-57 mph, are forecast.

As the cold front approaches, the NWS also is predicting a low chance of a strong to severe thunderstorm for late today. Flooding and even a tornado is possible with these storms.
