Sam Woolf's American Idol Journey Continues to Top Eight

On Thursday night during the popular singing competition, a contestant with Sudbury ties kept his journey alive.

On Thursday night, Sam Woolf's hopes of becoming the next American Idol remained in tact - barely.

The teenager who has family members in Sudbury entered this week's show in the Top 8, but needed a dramatic save to remain in the competition.

Woolf found himself in the bottom three when the results were announced, and he was revealed to have the lowest number of votes. Because of that, he was forced to perform one last time in hopes of staying alive in the competition.

And that's exactly what happened.

While Woolf performed, the judges decided to use their one save of the competition, assuring that no competitor would go home on Thursday night.

Following the announcement, Woolf's fellow contestants lifted him up in the air in celebrate.

Woolf, whose father, aunt and uncle live in Sudbury, will next hit the stage on Wednesday as American Idol continues.
