A lively awards ceremony for the OARS 2012 Photo Contest drew a crowd to ArtScape at Bradford Mill in West Concord on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 5.  The contest winners, photography buffs, OARS supporters and others viewed the twelve winning photos taken in and around the Assabet, Concord and Sudbury Rivers.

The overall winning photo “Camouflage frog” was by Sharon Tentarelli of Sudbury. John Sklenak of Sudbury also won for his photo “January Morning on the Sudbury.”

Thomas Cooper of Wayland won for his photo “Pooh Stick Race” taken on the Sudbury River.

The 12 winning photos reflected unique perspectives of these beautiful rivers and the roles they play in our communities.

Judges Roberta Boleyn, a painter and designer from Stow, Stephen Gabler, photographer and engineer of Sudbury, and Carl Calabria, Emmy-award winning videographer and engineer of Concord, selected  the winners from 136 submissions by 35 photographers.

The showing was held at ArtScape, a vibrant artist community in the Bradford Mill in West Concord. The full set of winning photos is available in a 2013 Calendar and as notecard sets available from OARS (www.oars3rivers.org). They are holiday gifts that support OARS’ science-based advocacy to restore the health of the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Rivers.
