Camuti Neighbors React To Attempted Murder Charge

The Town of Sudbury was stunned Friday when the Middlesex District Attorney announced the arrest of resident William Camuti on charges in connection with the death of Stephen Rakes, a witness in the Whitey Bulger trial.

The most serious charge was attempted murder.

When reached for comment, a neighbor at the Musketahquid Village apartment complex where Camuti is listed to live said, "I am horrified that someone associated in any way with Whitey Bulger and his business associates, who could potentially be a murderer, is living so close by and in Sudbury Housing. I am also questioning the Sudbury Housing Authority's screening process and hope to get some explanation and reassurance about how someone like this is living in town subsidized housing. It's extremely scary."

She did not want to be identified.

Another neighbor outside the complex said, "He's not very friendly."

DA Marian Ryan said Rakes was poisoned by Camuti over a bad business deal.

Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix declined comment and deferred all questions to the DA's office.

Jo-Anne Howe of the Sudbury Housing Authority said she was not allowed to comment on residents who may live in the complex.

The pictures show the outside of Apt. 3D where Camuti reportedly lives.

He was scheduled to be arraigned at Concord District Court on Friday.
