Sudbury Resident Brings Spinning, Stretching to Wayland-Weston Border

Spinning Lotus Studios is bringing spin classes and yoga classes to the Wayland, Weston area.

Sudbury resident Rhonda Skloff said it was a feeling of wanting to find a home that led to her decision to open Spinning Lotus Studios at 16 Boston Post Road in Wayland.

The studio, located within yards of Wayland's border with Weston, will be a place where Skloff can settle into her own space, embrace a new challenge and pursue her two passions: spinning and yoga.

"They're my two loves," Skloff said of the two forms of activity she plans for her soon-to-open studio. "They're my own passions, and I wanted to bring it together and bring it to the community."

Skloff, who once taught at Your Element Yoga in Sudbury, has spent more than a decade as a personal trainer, operating her business out of area studios and, most often, in people's homes. But her kids are older now, leaving her more time to run a physical business, and, she said, "It's time for me to lay down my roots."

For Skloff, spinning, an indoor cycling exercise class, and yoga, it will be Vinyasa flow style at Spinning Lotus, are a perfect combination, though she said it's a rare one.

"It's unique to find yoga and spin," Skloff said. "I love the yin and yang of it. To be able to strengthen and then lengthen is what we all need -- to be loud and then to be quiet."

Skloff's studio, located in office building immediately adjacent to Plain Road, features both a calming, softly lit yoga room with props for restorative yoga classes and space for about 25 mats as well as an energetic spin space complete with 21 RealRyder bikes, industrial decor and eggplant purple walls. There are also a couple of changing rooms for visitors.

Each week, Skloff and her bevy of teachers will offer an abundance of classes in each room, though not at the same time for noise reasons.

To begin, Skloff said she expects to offer eight classes daily, Monday through Thursday; four to five on Friday; and three to four on the weekends. The weekend afternoons will be left open for workshops, such as Skloff's breast cancer recovery support classes, which she has offered in Sudbury in the past.

"We want to make sure we care for everyone," Skloff said. "I really want people to feel comfortable when they come here."

In addition to her regular classes and workshops, Spinning Lotus Studios will also offer a couple of classes with beginners and area charities in mind. Skloff plans to offer, at least initially, Beginner Spinner classes twice per week. The classes will be geared to people new to spinning and will operate on a donation-only basis with the money going to an as-yet-undetermined area charity.

Additionally, Sarah Gardner, founder of Yoga Reaches Out, is scheduled to teach a yoga classes each week, again with the proceeds going to charity.

"This is definitely about community here," Skloff said. "I'm so excited to welcome people in here."

Skloff's studio remains under construction, but she said she hopes to have it up and running by mid-February. Spinning Lotus will operate as a studio, not a gym. Clients can purchase individual classes or receive a discount by purchasing a "class card" for multiple visits. Once her website is operational, clients will be able to purchase classes online, she said.

For now, Spinning Lotus Studios has a Facebook page at Facebook.com/SpinningLotusStudios.
