Bruins, Lincoln-Sudbury Alumni Raise Funds for Milley Scholarship

Fundraiser in honor of fallen Sudbury Army Ranger.

First Lt. Scott F. Milley of Sudbury, a 2005 graduate of Regional High School and a cum laude graduate of the University of New Hampshire, was an Army Ranger who gave his life serving his country as a member of the 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army. He was killed in Afghanistan last November.

Milley was popular and charismatic, and while in high school, was named captain of his varsity hockey team. After his untimely death at age 23, the Sudbury community honored “Scooter” and his family with a campaign that decorated most of the homes, streets, schools and public buildings in town with yellow or red, white and blue ribbons. Sen. John Kerry, Lt. Gov. Tim Murray and Gov. Deval Patrick were among the thousands of individuals who attended Scott's wake and funeral.

As a tribute to this remarkable young man, a scholarship has been set up in his name at his former high school. The Scott F. Milley Memorial Scholarship will be given to a graduating senior who best exemplifies the qualities of the award's namesake. Two scholarships, $5,000 each, will be awarded annually.

To fund the awards, a team made up of Milley’s former L-S hockey teammates will skate against an all-star group of former members of the Boston Bruins at the New England Sports Center (NESC) on April 10 at 1 p.m. The members of his former high school squad are being sponsored, and the money they raise will be donated to the fund. Milley’s brother, Steve, and his sister, Ashley, will captain the L-S alumni team. An auction and a raffle will be held during the game with all proceeds donated to the scholarship fund.

There are several ways to contribute to this worthwhile cause:
