No Charges Yet for Local Duo Who Drove Onto Willis Lake

White sedan was towed Thursday afternoon after it partially plunged through the ice around midnight.

The two Sudbury residents who drove a white sedan across frozen Willis Lake just after midnight on Thursday have yet to be charged, Lt. Robert Grady said Friday morning.

The couple, a male and female in their mid 20s, were taken to Emerson Hospital Thursday as a precaution, Lt. Scott Nix said on Thursday.

It took nearly 17 hours for the car to be removed from the lake. One attempt resulted in a towing apparatus breaking through the ice and getting stuck. A larger tow truck had to come in to the area to get both vehicles out of the lake. The car was finally on dry land at about 4:30 p.m.

Sudbury Fire Chief Bill Miles had personnel ready with emergency suits in case anyone fell through the ice.

The case is under investigation for pending charges and to find out the couple's reasoning for driving the car on lake, Nix said.
