What's Going On: Announcements You May Have Missed

Here's a smattering of local news that was announced this past week.

  • Power Soccer: The Fastest Sport on Wheels!

On Saturday Nov. 17, the Sharp Shooters will have 2 home games at Noyes Elementary School. The first game will kick off at 11:30 and the tournament will end around 3:00. There will be two other teams in attendance, one from MA and one from NH. Attendance is free and we encourage everyone to come watch and learn more about this exciting sport!  The Sharp Shooters want to "black out" the crowd so wear your black shirts!

  • Help Animals of Hurricane Sandy

Countless animals have been affected by Hurricane Sandy and NY/NJ shelters are overcrowded with displaced animals. Now through Nov. 25, call or visit any Especially for Pets location and purchase either a 40-pound Diamond Naturals Beef & Rice Dog Food ($34.99) or a 30-pound Blue Buffalo Chicken Adult Dog Food ($45.99). Not only will your purchase be donated to help these animals, but Especially for Pets will match it.

  • Artwork by Lowell Printmaker on Display at Emerson Medical at Sudbury

The artwork of printmaker Susan Jaworski-Stranc is on display through April 2013 at Emerson Medical at Sudbury, located at 490 Boston Post Road (Route 20 in Chiswick Park). A resident of Lowell, Jaworski-Stranc specializes in the creation of reduction linoleum prints.

  • LWV Forum

The League of Women Voters will moderate a forum at Goodnow Library to discuss the two questions to be voted upon in the upcoming Special Town Meeting.  Question 1 asks the citizens of Sudbury to vote for for a new roof for the Nixon school and Question 2 seeks town approval for a real estate tax exemption for low income seniors. The forum will be held on Nov. 27 at 7 p.m.

Gobble Wobble for SMILE Mass Event

The Gobble Wobble for SMILE Mass is this Saturday, Nov. 17. Join SMILE Mass at the Curtis Middle School from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm for two great causes.  Due to the devastation in our neighboring states, SMILE Mass is proud to announce all proceeds from the Family Fun Day/Vendor Fair portion of the event will be donated to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.   Proceeds from the Gobble Wobble 5K Road Race/Kids Fun Run will support Phase 1 of the SMILE Mass mission – to place 100 beach wheelchairs on public beaches on Cape Cod. At the Family Fun Day/Vendor Fair there will be collection boxes for needed Hurricane Sandy relief items such as adult clothing, adult diapers, baby Items – formula, food, diapers, blankets, bleach, energy bars, flashlights, granola bars, kids clothing, outerwear - gloves, coats, hats (all sizes), toys – board games, puzzles, toys that don’t require batteries, etc.
