Applications now being accepted for new Senior Tax Program

New Tax Savings Program for Sudbury Seniors is finally here.

After years of trying the Town of Sudbury has finally adopted a new program to protect low and moderate income seniors from high property taxes.  Seniors can now pick up applications at the Assessor's Office in the Flynn Building, or at the Senor Center.  An informational meeting at the Senior Center is planned for Tuesday, July 23rd at 2:30PM
The new "MEANS TESTED SENIOR EXEMPTION" program aims to keep eligible seniors' property taxes at no more than 10% of income.  Eligibility is restricted to those who are over 65, have lived in Sudbury for at least 10 consecutive years, and a home assessed at $685,148 or less.  Income requirements are the same as the Commonwealth's Circuit-breaker credit.
Applicants must not only complete a form, but also submit copies of Schedule CB (Circuit-breaker) from the Massachusetts income tax return, and pages one and two of the federal form 1040.  The Board of Assessors may deny an application if it finds that the applicant has excessive assets that places the applicant and any co-owners outside of the intended recipients of the exemption.
