Innovation Workshop for High School Students

Intel and OARS will offer an exciting hands-on workshop for high school students on how to transform innovations into solutions. The workshop will provide an opportunity to apply new ideas to solve real environmental challenges in the Assabet, Sudbury and Concord River watersheds. The same principles can be applied to problem-solving in general, a skill valued for college admissions and career development.

Innovation is vital to our economy and quality of life and high school students are the innovators of the future. Paul Goldman and Ingeborg Hegemann will present the workshop and guide students in the learning activities. Dr. Goldman has over 30 years of research & development experience, 13 patents, and has supervised over 20 college internships. Ms. Hegemann has over 30 years of environmental consulting experience and teaches Wetlands Ecology at UMass/Lowell.

Students participating in the 2012 Workshop had this to say: “The information really helped me understand much more about innovation.” “The exercises were fun and helpful–especially the ones where we created ideas.” The workshop also prepares students to enter the 2013/14 Intel-OARS Environmental Innovators Contest.
