Moravian Christmas Eve Lovefeast Service

A Moravian Christmas Eve Lovefeast Service

Are you interested in a service that is traditional yet unique? This year at 6:00 pm on Christmas Eve Sudbury United Methodist Church is offering a traditional Moravian Lovefeast to celebrate the birth of Christ.  A Lovefeast service combines prayer and scripture with both familiar and unique Moravian hymns and carols. Some of the music is played antiphonally, accompanied by a band of wind instruments. The sharing of a simple meal of apple cider and sugar cookies fosters a spirit of fellowship between congregants. The service concludes with the sanctuary darkened but then illuminated by hundreds of specially decorated beeswax candles as a final hymn is sung.

At 4:00 pm on Christmas Eve, Sudbury UMC will offer a special worship service for families that will include a children’s pageant retelling the birth of Christ.  At 8:00 pm, a traditional service of carols, preaching, and Holy Communion will conclude with a candlelit rendition of “Silent Night.”
