Yom Hashoah Remembrance: Performance of "The Last Cyclist

To remember and honor those lost in the Holocaust, Congregations Beth El, Bnai Torah and Or Atid will come together for a service and stage reading of the play, "The Last Cyclist" based on a cabaret written by Karel Svenk in 1994. The play was never performed, as the writer and actors feared retaliation by the Nazis, as the play mocks the Nazis.

The play is funny and is meant to be funny. A coping mechanism of sorts for those in Terezin, who were living in terrible conditions. This play gives us insight into the resilience of the Jews
imprisoned in the Terezin Ghetto, a "waiting station" on the way to
concentration camps such as Auschwitz. In Terezin, artists performed concerts
and plays, created art--in spite of the horrific conditions.

The program is open to all in the community. There will be a short service to begin, followed by the stage reading.
