Educator, Volunteer Joins Library Foundation Board

The Goodnow Library Foundation is pleased to announce that Paula Bentinck-Smith has joined its board of directors.

As the foundation's newest director, Bentinck-Smith will help raise funds for capital expenditures to improve the library's facilities and services. She will work closely with Barbara Pryor, board president; David Pettit, treasurer; and Helen Crary, clerk, on the foundation's latest project, the creation of an exciting new community gathering space on the library's first floor.

Other Goodnow Library Foundation board members include Steve Ziobrowski, Kim J. Ogden and Katey Ford DeTraglia.

Bentinck-Smith is a former guidance counselor and health educator for the Brookline Public Schools. The Sudbury resident also has extensive volunteer experience, serving as vice president of the Fay School Board of Trustees.

In her work at Fay, Bentinck-Smith helped plan the building of a ten-million-dollar primary school to serve students pre-K through second grade. She was a member of the search committee to hire a new head of school, and was chair of the enrollment and placement committee.

A part-time resident of Sanibel, Florida, Bentinck-Smith is a volunteer fundraiser for the Golisano Children's Hospital in Fort Meyers. In addition, she helps coordinate fundraising as a volunteer for the Big Arts scholarship fund in Sanibel.

Her appointment to the Goodnow foundation board was approved at a recent meeting of the Goodnow Library trustees.

As a director, Bentinck-Smith will also be involved with the planning of the foundation's annual fall fundraiser. "Black and White and Read (All Over)" will be held October 25, 2014, from 6:30 to 9 pm at the Goodnow Library. It will feature Sudbury's local musical talent, community raffle baskets and door prizes. Guests will enjoy wine, beer and bountiful hors d'oeuvres will supporting the library.

Paula Bentinck-Smith has been a Sudbury resident since 1983. She is married with two children.
