On the Trail of the Infamous Whitey Bulger at Goodnow
For 25 years, Boston Globe columnist Kevin Cullen and colleague Shelley Murphy reported on the exploits of South Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger. A son of South Boston himself, Cullen was the first to expose Bulger's corrupt relationship with his FBI handler and the first to publish secret letters Bulger wrote while being held in the Plymouth Jail.
After the 16-year manhunt for the elusive criminal ended in Santa Monica, California, two years ago, Cullen followed every step of Bulger's journey back to Massachusetts. He covered Bulger's Boston trial and its stunning verdict in August. Media outlets around the world picked up his stories.
On Thursday, November 21, Cullen will share his insights with Sudbury residents. The event will begin at 7 pm in the Goodnow's first-floor meeting room.
Copies of Cullen and Murphy's book, "Whitey Bulger: America's Most Wanted Gangster and the Manhunt That Brought Him to Justice," will be available for purchase. The book details Bulger's extraordinary criminal career, from teenage thievery to bank robberies to the building of his underworld empire and a string of brutal murders.
First published in hardback last February, "Whitey Bulger" has just been released in a paperback edition that includes the latest information on the aftermath of the Bulger trial.
The Goodnow Library Foundation will also host a book signing and reception for the author and attendees following Cullen's presentation.
The event is free and open to the public. However, seating is limited and by reservation only. To reserve a place, go online and visit http://bit.ly/HwBPoa
