How to Relive and Recover

I have worked hard my whole life to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle and like many individuals this has not been an easy road for me. I was not blessed being born with a six pack and super toned Madonna arms.

Throughout my youth and as a young adult it frustrated me, even angered me that I had to work so hard with physical training and maintaining a strict diet for what seemingly came so easy to others. By the time I had finally accomplished my life long fitness goal I had a life threatening experience that resulted in a trip to the ICU, extensive surgery, rehab and also meant that I could not work out for almost a year.

As time passed on, I slowly began to lose all of my muscle that I had worked so hard to maintain and achieve all of these years. During this time I fell into a dark place and I learned who really loved me for me. It would be a lie for me to say that everyone in my life continued to provide non-judgmental support.

Shortly after opening up H2K I began meeting other men and women who had encountered something similar whether it be a knee injury, broken arm, a difficult pregnancy or the loss of a loved one. They approached H2K’s fitness programs with trepidation and a sense of fear but also hope.  It was so rewarding to be able to share in their pain and to be able to comfort them in the beginning of their new journey.

They made the first step towards their healing process and that was truly inspiring. I’m sharing this experience because the thought of picking your life back up after a traumatic experience or injury is exasperating. There are so many emotions flowing through you. Fear, embarrassment, anger and excitement are just a few.  However, the thought of not taking your life back both physically and emotionally is even more daunting.

I tell all of my clients it’s never too late to step back into fitness. It doesn’t matter if it has been 6 months or 3 years. You should never feel embarrassed about owning your life again because sometimes life throws you ugly curve balls and the difference between the weak and the strong are those individuals who throw the curve balls right back!
