More news from the LS boys swim team

Lexington at Lincoln-Sudbury

Chris Wilkins

Last Friday, January 10 the Lincoln-Sudbury boys were taken by surprise when the Lexington team put forth a valiant effort and secured the win. The meet came down to the final relay and despite an LS win in that event the boys still came up short by an margin of just two points, with a final score of 86-84.

The meet started off on a strong note when Nick Genovese, Chris Mcgean, Tom Edwards, and Andrei Rakitan took first place in the 200 Medley Relay. Rakitan appeared in the next event as well taking third in the 200 freestyle, teammates Chris Knightly and Jack Walker followed taking fifth and sixth.           Genovese, Cehelsky, and Cincotta were able to manage second, fourth, and seventh in the 50 freestyle against the strong Lexington swimmers. Nate Thomas, Tristan Wendel, and Colin Alie had impressive swims in this event as well. Chris Wilkins, Nick Genovese, and Nick Wilkins, all performed well in the 100 butterfly, taking places one, five, and six. The 100 freestyle followed and was another strong event for the boys where C. Wilkins, Hogan, and Walker took first, fourth, and sixth.

Billig, Rakitan, and Thomas were able to take first, fifth, and sixth in the 500 freestyle, scoring LS some much needed points, following this event, Lexington was ahead of LS by ten points, a score of 50-60. That difference was limited to only four after the 200 freestyle relay when LS took first and the team of Cehelsky, Joachim, N. Wilkins, and Walker clinched third place.

Knightly, Hogan and Kennedy further tightened the lead in the 100 backstroke taking first, third, and sixth, limiting Lexingtons lead to only two points. Edwards, Mcgean and Cincotta swam well in the 100 breaststroke taking second, fifth and sixth. The meet came down to the final event where the boys took first and third and were unable to seize the victory, a loss by only two points.

The Lincoln-Sudbury boys were put out of their comfort zone this meet, swimming events they do not usually swim. Though they did put forth a great effort they were barely beaten out by the strong Lexington team. This meet will hopefully help prepare the boys for what is perhaps their most difficult meet of the season against state champions St. Johns Prep Tuesday, January 14.
