Environmentalists Back Barrett

Mike Barrett earns endorsements from the Sierra Club and Mass. League of Environmental Voters.

State Senate candidate Mike Barrett has earned endorsements from the Sierra Club and Mass. League of Environmental Voters (MLEV).  Barrett, currently the Democratic nominee for the area, served in the Legislature years ago, compiling a strong record on conservation and clean energy.

The Sierra Club, oldest environmental group in the nation, works to protect major statutory achievements like the federal Clean Energy Act and increase support for alternative energy sources.  The Massachusetts chapter has a 40-year tradition of similar advocacy at the state level.  MLEV endorses candidates for the state Legislature who will act “locally with responsible stewardship and sustainability” across a range of conservation issues.

As a State Representative from 1979-1984, Barrett was a leader in shaping hazardous waste cleanup legislation, for which he was awarded the Environmental Lobby of Massachusetts' Special Achievement Award.  Later, in the State Senate, Barrett served as chief sponsor of the state’s original Toxic Use Reduction Act, a law so well written that it earned “Best Bet” recognition by the National Center for Policy Alternatives.

While Barrett gives considerable attention to environmental issues on his campaign website, his Republican opponent does not mention the topic at all on hers.

And we can guess the result... more costs, more red tape, more hurdles for businesses and home owners, more pontification, and more taxes. Reverend E. Raleigh Pimperton III
