Longtime Sudbury Resident Was Marine, Auxiliary Police Officer

Robert E. Boyd Senior of Sudbury was 81 years old.

The following is an obituary courtesy of Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home.

Robert E. Boyd, Sr., 81, of Birchwood Ave., Sudbury, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham after a brief illness. He was born in South Boston, son of the late James and Johanna (Murphy) Boyd.

A resident of Sudbury since the 1940's, he was the loving husband of the late Geraldine (O'Toole) Boyd who died in 2011. As a young man he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and had later worked as the service manager for Lincoln Auto, served as an Auxiliary Sudbury police officer, later he enjoyed working at Budget office furniture with his family before retiring. He was an faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Sudbury. He was devoted to his large and loving family, his true love Geri and his adoring grandchildren, he and his family spent many enjoyable Summers on Frye Island in Maine.

He leaves a daughter Beverly O'Connor of Sudbury, a son Robert Boyd, Jr. and his wife Christine of Sudbury and was the father of the late Patricia Hanchett and her husband Ken. He also leaves a brother David Boyd of Bourne and a sister Mary Anne Bigwood of Sudbury; ten grandchildren: Kenneth Ryan Hanchett, Abigail Hanchett, Emily Hanchett, Kate Forbes, John O'Connor, Sarah Strangie, Robert Strangie, Thomas Boyd, Lauren Boyd and Daniel Boyd; several special nieces and nephews including Ryan Boyd and a close family friend David Poor.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 21 from 4 to 7 PM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will be in Wadsworth Cemetery, Sudbury.
