Obituary: Born in England, Barbara Ackroyd Raised Her Family in Sudbury

Barbara Ackroyd, 86, retired to Cape Cod and moved to Plymouth in 2005.

The following is an obituary courtesy of Richard Davis Funeral Home.

Barbara (Dawson) Ackroyd of Plymouth passed away on April 20 at the age of 86. The beloved wife of the late Samuel Ackroyd, she is survived by her daughters Patricia Barki of England, Susan Kidder of Pennsylvania and Kathryn Baggan of Plymouth. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Barbara was born in Bradford, England, and moved to the United States with her husband at the age of 24. She and her husband raised their family in Sudbury.

Prior to retiring on Cape Cod and moving to Plymouth in 2005. Barbara attended schools in England and enjoyed performing Gilbert and Sullivan with many choruses. Barbara was a member of the Savoyards Church Choir, the Mid-Cape Chorus and the Vitrola Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family and favorite dog Sammy.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 24, at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) from 4 to 8 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 25, at St. Bonaventure’s Church at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Wadsworth Cemetery in Sudbury.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations in her memory be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
