Obituary: Former Wellesley Resident was Longtime Sudbury Music Teacher

Edna M. Geary, 89, formerly of Wellesley, Mass. died May 19 in Westmoreland, New Hampshire. 

She is survived by her daughters, Joan Geary of Fitzwilliam, N.H. and Susan (Gustave) Hoyland, also of Fitzwilliam, N.H.; grandchildren: Michael Baxter of Arlington, Mass., Terri Hoyland of Winchester, N.H. and Elizabeth Aho of Fitzwilliam, N.H., and several great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a sister, Maralynn Johnson of Auburndale, Mass. and Bridgton, Maine, and many nieces and nephews and their families. Also, survived by her son-in-law's mother, Maria Hoyland, a former neighbor.

Geary held degrees from the New England Conservatory, Lesley College, and the Royal Conservatory, University of Toronto. She was a longtime music education teacher in Sudbury, Mass., and chaired the music education department at Boston Conservatory until 1997.

She was a founding member of the New England Chapter of the Orff Schulwerk Association, won several awards for her work, and studied and taught extensively in Canada, Europe, China and Japan. Services will be private.
