LETTER TO THE EDITOR: A Big Thank You to the Community

The Sudbury Wayland Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable acknowledges those who help with its cause.

You did it!  You made their day a little brighter. Thank you from the members of the Sudbury Wayland Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable and victims of domestic violence who are not safe in their own home and reside in the shelters and transitional homes of three different domestic violence organizations; REACH Beyond Domestic Violence, The Second Step and Voices Against Violence.

Each year the Roundtable has a Valentine’s Day gift bag drive to show that people do care and are thinking of them at this time.  A special thanks to Sudbury Extended Day pre-K students for decorating all 66 bags!  They add a very special touch.  This is a community effort.

Thanks to all who donated items for the gift bags including: the League of Women Voters of Sudbury and Acton, Marlborough Savings Bank, students from Montserrat College of Art, swimmers at Atkinson Pool in Sudbury, members of the Council on Aging in Lincoln, a knitting group in Weston, parents and staff members of Sudbury Extended Day, staff and teachers of Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School, and local residents.

This is one of many projects the Sudbury, Wayland, Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable organizes as a reminder to families, both children and adults, that people care and think about them.  It is a small gesture on our part, but makes a big difference to them.  Everyone can make a difference.  During the spring, we have a Shower For Shelters drive, which benefits the shelters and individuals transitioning from a shelter to their new homes.

If you share our determination to eliminate domestic violence or are interested to hear about how our community addresses domestic violence, please attend our monthly public meetings held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, September through June, at 3:00 p.m. in the Wayland Public Safety Building at the intersection of Route 20 and Route 27 in Wayland, Massachusetts. There are no attendance fees and no dues.  More information is available at domesticviolenceroundtable.org.
