LETTER TO THE EDITOR: O'Brien is Dedicated to the Sudbury Community

Resident Frederick Rust urges others to vote for the incumbent selectman.

I want to register my support for Larry O'Brien as Sudbury selectman, and urge others to vote for him.

As an adult leader of Sudbury youth groups, I have personally seen his dedication to and support of the Sudbury community. And as a member in other civic groups I have seen his hard work that has allowed our town to maintain good roads, protect conservation land, expand recreation facilities and preserve our town infrastructure - all while keeping the budget and taxes under control.

He has served the town and community for the past 16 years, and has ably set a direction that minimizes expense but maximizes benefits.

Larry O'Brien and I belong to opposing parties on a national and a state level; that's one reason why I am glad town politics are non-partisan and why they should stay that way. This allows me to wholeheartedly support the best candidate for Sudbury selectman, the candidate with the most experience and with a proven ability to effectively manage town government, Larry O'Brien.

How come the only people who will support Larry publicly are the People who have a financial interest in building 40B developments?

Who can forget Ms. Rust's various attempts to influence how we vote by calling 40b the anti snob zoning law? She is a town employee but acts like an NGO activist.

Wake me up when somebody other than a housing trust member or spouse of a town employee writes a letter for Larry O'Brien. His lack of support from others in town has to make you think that people don't want another 3 years like the past 16.

red, I appreciate your loyalty to Larry up to the point where his election determines the level of household earnings for the Rust family. Without Larry on the board, Beth may not have her job given her positions on 40B, etc. As far as these races being non-partisan, I think that is pure folly. Just look and see who the majority of the Sudbury Democrat Town Committee votes for. Just look who (Larry) was at the committee's last meeting (with a picture in the Town Crier, no less). Who's the party for taxes and spending? That's the O'Brien way. When it quacks like a duck............... Also, Larry made it no secret for years that he wanted Sue Pope's seat. Imagine his disdain when upstart Tom (the Running Man) Conroy came up and took it away. Larry has become a politician even more that a selectman and he knows which party supplies his most consistent votes. You, Fred, are more of an exception. Unfortunately, it would seem, motivated at some level by more than politics. I guess in this economy it's hard to blame a guy for that.
